The Modern Crunchy
Baby Registry
Creating a baby registry can feel completely overwhelming, especially if you’re aiming for a cleaner, non-toxic, or "crunchy" approach. With so many products on the market, sorting through materials and ingredients is a full-time job in itself! Whether this is your very first baby or your sixth, I hope this guide helps simplify your search for safer options.
Let's dive into the checklist:

Crib Mattress
Conventional mattresses are packed with polyurethane foam that off-gasses VOCs, chemical flame retardants, and toxic PVC or vinyl waterproof covers. Swapping to a GOTS-certified organic mattress means your baby sleeps on natural fibers like pure cotton and wool—which is naturally fire-resistant, breathable, and completely free from harsh chemicals.
Here are some suggestions:

Sheets
Look for GOTS-certified organic cotton or 100% natural linen. These options avoid synthetic dyes, pesticides, and petroleum-based polyester, providing a breathable surface for sensitive baby skin. Burt's Bee always has a lot of options!

Swaddle Blankets
Crunchy Mom Tip — Watch out for "bamboo" baby gear! While it sounds natural, most bamboo fabric is actually Bamboo Viscose, which requires harsh chemical solvents like carbon disulfide to process. For a truly non-toxic option, stick to GOTS-certified organic cotton or linen!

Sleep Sacks/Swaddles
Swaddles and Sleep Sacks have become somewhat "controversial" in the Crunchy mom community. Narrow or overly tight sleep sacks can force the legs straight instead of allowing the natural, wide "frog-leg" position, which can increase the risk of hip dysplasia. As well as keeping a baby’s arms trapped in a swaddle or sleep sack past the early newborn phase or once they show signs of rolling can hinder motor milestones. If you decide to use one, stick to natural fabrics like this one:

Baby Monitors
Within Baby Monitors there are two primary concerns: minimizing EMF (electromagnetic frequency) radiation exposure and eliminating Wi-Fi privacy risks. Wi-Fi-connected cameras have high-frequency signals into the nursery 24/7 while leaving your camera vulnerable to hacking, which is why low-tox moms prefer non-Wi-Fi monitors that transmit over a closed, local frequency (FHSS) or ultra-low-EMF models with VOX mode—a voice-activation setting that puts the camera into a zero-emission sleep state until baby makes a sound.
Crunchy Mom Tip—The easiest safety rule for any baby monitor is the 6-foot rule: mounting your monitor at least 6 to 10 feet away from the crib significantly reduces EMF exposure at baby's sleeping zone.
Here's a few "lower emf" baby monitors:

Bebcare Motion Non-WiFi Video Baby Monitor – Low EMF, Safe
Breastfeeding
With breastfeeding many things that are sold are not "essential". Within nursing all you really need is you and your baby a lot of the time! However, here are some healthier options for what you may be considering buying. You can prioritize food-grade silicone breast pump parts over standard plastic (which can shed microplastics or leach chemicals when heated or sterilized), reusable silicone bags or glass mason jars for milk storage instead of disposable plastic zip-pouch bags, and GOTS-certified organic cotton, wool, or buckwheat nursing pillows to avoid warming up and off-gassing petroleum-based polyurethane foam during hours of daily feeding.
For Painful Nipples:
Some Moms have said to skip the nipple balms & creams. Instead get a jar of organic coconut oil and/or olive oil which helps with cracking, inflammation, and thrush.
Another Tip! Soak a cotton pad in olive oil, freeze it, and apply a new one after each nursing session for relief. (Just be mindful it may stain clothing)
Otherwise consider these products:

Glass Baby Bottles:

You can also use a Glass Milk Jug to store your breastmilk in the fridge.
Burp Cloths with natural fabrics:
Once they start solids around six months old, you can also opt for making your own purees or start BLW! When making purees at home, it's helpful to have glass jars like these:
Nursing Tip- Purchase a Haakaa to use on your other breast as you nurse! This especially works during let downs and while you're first establishing your milk. They can be found at just about any store with a Baby Section.
Diapering
Look for products that don't contain any synthetic fragrances, petroleum byproducts, chlorine bleaching, and dangerous minerals like talc (aka most baby powders). Conventional disposable diapers often undergo chlorine bleaching that produces trace dioxin byproducts (including Millie Moon!), while standard wipes and diaper creams frequently rely on polyester fabrics, artificial scents, and petroleum jelly that can trap heat and irritate delicate skin. Instead, clean ingredient routines prioritize Total Chlorine-Free (TCF) or GOTS-certified organic cloth diapers, 99%+ water-based plant fiber wipes (No, Not Water Wipes), petroleum-free herbal balms made with organic calendula, and absorbent cornstarch- or arrowroot-based dusting powders.
Many Cloth Diapers contain synthetic fabrics but here's a couple websites to look at:

Baby Carriers
Baby carriers are incredibly useful for many mothers, just be sure the one you're using and how you're using it promotes healthy hip and spine development via the "M-position." Baby Carriers boost oxytocin to foster deep bonding and lactation support. For low-tox, natural-minded parenting, opt for breathable, chemical-free, and sustainable fabrics. (My personal favorites are rings slings and woven wraps). A few brands to look at are:
